Council Initiatives
In the past couple months, council members have proposed five council initiatives. A council initiative is an idea brought forward by a council member to benefit our community. The idea must be clearly articulated, presented to Council, and voted on. If the initiative passes, the idea is sent to the city staff, where policy, processes, costs, and other details are worked out. At that point, the initiative comes back to the Council for discussion and possible approval.
The Council initiatives working their way through our City Government are
Cost reduction efforts, to eliminate redundancies in the city departments and across city, township, and county;
Accessibility, to increase grant support for accessibility projects;
Regeneration of the city core, to create incentives for investment in the City core;
Green infrastructure commission, to promote green infrastructure in construction and redevelopment; and
Gun violence, build a comprehensive plan to address gun violence.
As always, I welcome your thoughts on these or other issues before our City Council.
