As I take the oath of office

Bloomington swears in the new members of the City Council this morning. We will swear to “faithfully discharge the duties” of Alderman.

In addition to duties spelled out in the Illinois Municipal Code, I have a few more that I’ll faithfully discharge:

  • Respect: I will treat everyone with dignity and respect. This goes for voters, the mayor, city workers, and other members of the Council. Even if we disagree.

  • Integrity: I will be transparent and open in all matters involving our City.

  • Accessibility: I was elected to represent people and that starts with listening. I promise to listen to voters in our Ward but also to concerns across our entire community.

An invitation: City Council holds regular meetings at 6:00 pm on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month. Committee of the Whole meets at the same time on the 3rd Mondays. Agenda information is posted on Thursdays before each meeting. You can watch the meetings via a live video stream on YouTube.

Finally, my thanks to Ward 9 voters who placed their trust in me and to the supporters who knocked on doors, wrote letters, made phone calls, put signs in their yards, sent texts, and donated to our campaign.

Thank you, friends. Let’s get to work.
