Reporting Uneven Sidewalks

I was called recently by a family concerned about the uneven sidewalks in their neighborhood. So I biked over and walked down that street. I found those sidewalks to be quite uneven and raised for over a block or so. I contacted the Public Works department. Mr. Kevin Kothe, Director of Public Works, indicated that sidewalks marked with a straight red line means the uneven panels will be cut flush by a vertical displacement contractor this construction year. Sidewalks marked with a wavy red line means the panel will be replaced by Public Works.

You can report a problem sidewalk in your neighborhood on the My Bloomington web portal.

In addition, the 50/50 Sidewalk Program provides property owners with an opportunity to replace defective sidewalks for half of the total cost, although many families find this option to be cost prohibitive.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
