Review of ADA Compliance Plan
Over the next six months, the City of Bloomington will review our City’s ADA compliance plan. We need to address the barriers to our buildings, public rights-of-way, and communication needs.
On June 14, 2021, the City Council unanimously approved two items to move our City toward a more inclusive and barrier-free community. The City Council directed city staff to
rework the city's current Americans with Disabilities Act transition plan and bring it back to the Council before the December 13 meeting. The City will seek input directly from members of the disability community, research how federal COVID-relief funds might be incorporated into the plan, and provide specific dates for implementation.
draft a resolution increasing the amount of money available to eligible businesses through the Harriet Fuller Rust Fund Facade Program for accessibility projects.
The current guidelines for the Harriet Fuller Rust Fund Facade Program allocates funds of up to 50% of the total cost of a project. The maximum grants currently allowed are $25,000 and $50,000. Funds are restricted to improvements to building facades in the central business district.
The proposed revised guidelines may allocate up to 75% of the total cost of projects that improve accessibility to businesses in the central business district.
