American Rescue Plan Funding

Bloomington will receive $13.3 million as part of the American Rescue Plan. This federally funded program is intended to help boost COVID-19 recovery efforts. In the next few meetings, the City Council will discuss the use of these funds.

The US Department of Treasury provides examples of how cities can spend these funds. Allowable expenditures include water and sewer infrastructure, broadband infrastructure, public health, road resurfacing and repair, and other negative economic impacts of the pandemic. The money must be allocated by 2024 and used by 2026.

My inclination at this point is that we should allocate most of this money toward roads and sewer infrastructure. Iā€™m open to your ideas, however, and would like to hear your thoughts on the best use of the American Rescue Plan funding. Please reach out with your perspective.
